- Taiwan is home to some of the most diverse religious faiths including Buddhism, Taoism, Christianity, Mormonism, and Islam, and sects such as Yiguandao, and the people are highly respectful of all the different faiths practiced in the country.
- Taiwan follows the lunar calendar for their festivals, and some of the most celebrated ones include the Chinese New Year, the Moon (Mid-Autumn) Festival, the Qingming Festival (also known as Children’s day) and the Dragon Boat Festival.
- People celebrate festivals with their families and friends and enjoy eating dumplings and bursting firecrackers.
- Taiwanese people are usually reserved, very polite, and considerate of others’ feelings before expressing themselves openly.
- Teachers or professors in schools and colleges are respectfully addressed as ‘LaoShi’, which means ‘teacher’. For example, if your professor’s name is Chen, you may address him as ‘LaoShi Chen’ or ‘Professor Chen’ but not by his first name as it is considered rude to do so.
- Taiwanese people are warm and hospitable, and welcome their guests with great respect.
